Dear ASTA Premium Member,
I am writing to alert you to a new regulatory initiative in which ASTA is playing a key role.
Together, ASTA and its allies, the Business Travel Coalition and the Consumer Travel Alliance, are working to persuade Congress and the Department of Transportation (DOT) to force the airlines to come clean about hidden fees in a campaign that will culminate on Sept. 23. We aren’t asking that the fees be eliminated, rather that the airlines provide travel agents with full access so that you can help your clients make an informed travel decision. We hope you will join us in signing the petition at MadasHellaboutHiddenFees.com.
We also ask that you share this information and Web site with your clients and encourage them to share their horror stories about hidden fee sticker shock. One element of this campaign involves pitching national morning news shows with the story. Morning news programs, like all media, love real-life examples of everyday Americans who have been affected by an issue, in this case hidden ancillary fees.
We are reaching out to you, our Premium members, to help us find consumers who live within driving distance of a major TV market (for example, New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago etc) who have been hit with surprise charges, who are angry about hidden fees and who would be willing to share their stories on national TV.
If you have clients who fit this bill, please let us know by contacting us at PR@asta.org.
By making our voices heard and sharing our stories, we can make a difference. Tell Congress and the DOT you are “mad as hell” about hidden fees.
