Fort Lauderdale, Florida, August 29, 2019 - Last night, the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) celebrated its 16th annual Advocacy Dinner during the ASTA Global Convention in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Close to 400 travel advisors, suppliers and guests enjoyed a memorable evening at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort the policies affecting the retail travel business today. The main purpose of the Advocacy Dinner is to celebrate donors to the American Society of Travel Advisors Political Action Committee (ASTAPAC), a special fund established under the federal election laws to allow ASTA to collect voluntary contributions from travel advisor members for the purpose of supporting political candidates and parties that help advance ASTA’s industry priorities. ASTAPAC has been raising the Society’s political profile since 1979.
While the focus was on celebrating current donors, a number of contributions were pledged onsite, including $50,000 from Royal Caribbean International and $25,000 from Crystal Cruises. Annual PAC receipts now surpass $400,000, the most the association has ever raised for ASTAPAC. ASTA also honored the commitment and dedication of the following award recipients:
“It has been an extraordinary advocacy year for ASTA,” said Zane Kerby, President & CEO of ASTA. “So many members have put in so much time and effort this year, it was exceedingly difficult to choose last night’s winners. It was an honor to recognize the Alabama Chapter, Brian, Toni and Denise for their dedication and commitment.”
Rebranded in 2018 as the American Society of Travel Advisors, ASTA is the leading global advocate for travel advisors, the travel industry and the traveling public.
