California Assembly Bill 5 and the “Travel Agent Services” Exemption What You Need

As you’ve likely heard, ASTA scored one of its biggest advocacy wins ever when it successfully lobbied the California legislature to include an exemption for travel advisors in the recently-enacted Assembly Bill 5. Without the exemption, the new law would have effectively outlawed the industry’s independent advisor business model in the state. While securing the exemption was an enormous victory, travel agency owners should be aware that several criteria must be satisfied in order to qualify for it.
