ASTA Statement on Hurricane Harvey

San Diego, CA, August 29, 2017ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby issues the following statement in response to the ongoing devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Southeast Texas and all those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. We stand ready to assist our member companies and their staff in the affected communities as they recover from this terrible natural disaster. As the travel industry stands united to help the displaced, we hope that our supplier partners will be compassionate and understanding while working with ASTA member agencies and their clients on cancellation, re-booking and remuneration policies connected to travel impacted by the devastation.

“ASTA’s Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) sets aside up to $40,000 per year in ASTAPAC Charitable Matching funds to allow ASTA chapters and individuals that reach PAC fundraising goals to support the charity of their choice. Given the scope of this disaster, we’re urging ASTA member and chapters who have not yet redeemed those funds to direct them to the appropriate local charities supporting the Texas communities affected by hurricane Harvey. Additionally, we encourage our travel industry partners to work through Tourism Cares and other entities to give generously to disaster relief efforts.”
