Winners to be announced at ASTA's Global Convention in San Diego later this month
Alexandria, VA, August 4, 2017 – Today the American Society of Travel agents (ASTA) is pleased to announce the nominees for two top award categories; the Extra Mile Award and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The winner of each award category will be announced at the ASTA Global Convention (AGC) in San Diego, August 27-29.
Extra Mile Award (Sponsored by Enterprise):
This award is given to the travel agent who in the last twelve months has gone the “extra mile” to provide exceptional service for a client in a new and creative way that goes above and beyond the normal course of business. Stories were submitted from around the world from agents who self-nominated as well as from agents who submitted nominations to recognize the extraordinary work of their colleagues.
The finalists are:
Entrepreneur of the Year (Sponsored by the Dan and Gloria Bohan Foundation):
This award was established by the Dan and Gloria Bohan Foundation to promote entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial spirit in the travel and hospitality industry through recognition of innovators who have either established their own business or who have been responsible for significant entrepreneurial initiatives within an existing organization. Each year, the Foundation, in conjunction with ASTA, selects one person or organization that best exemplifies this spirit of entrepreneurship to receive the award and a $10,000 cash prize.
This year, the three finalists will appear on stage at the ASTA Global Convention to participate in a live “Shark Tank”-style competition on Monday, August 28. Each finalist will be given five minutes to make a pitch to our panel of travel experts and industry veteran judges. Our judges will each cast a vote for one of the finalists. The live audience, acting as a “super judge,” will also cast one vote to determine the winner.
The finalists are:
ASTA is sincerely thankful to everyone who took the time to submit nominations for the above awards.
“Travel agents do extraordinary things for their clients every day and our industry is constantly innovating,” said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby. “The submissions we received for these awards highlight the trust consumers place in the travel agency community and that time and time again, agents deliver. This year's Entrepreneur submissions offered inspiring stories about professionals and companies who are making lasting and meaningful contribution to the future of the travel industry”.
