Alexandria, VA, March 18, 2015 – The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) will present Congressional Travel and Tourism Caucus Co-Chairman Rep. Sam Farr (D-CA) with its 2015 Global Travel Advocate Award this evening at a reception in the Capitol Building to kick off ASTA’s Second Annual Legislative Day.
"Through his longtime leadership of the Travel and Tourism Caucus, Sam Farr has championed a number of issues important to travel advisors and the broader travel and tourism industry, from mitigating the impact of cuts to federal travel budgets to reauthorizing Brand USA to opening the Cuba market to more U.S. travelers and travel service providers,” said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby. “We can think of no one more deserving of this award than Congressman Farr, and are pleased to kick off our 2015 advocacy campaign by recognizing those who fight for the issues important to ASTA and our members."

On March 19, about 50 ASTA members will meet face-to-face with their representatives in the U.S. House and Senate to discuss legislative priorities impacting travel, travel advisors and agency owners. These will include issues such as opening travel for all Americans to Cuba, ending discriminatory state taxes on rental cars, ensuring transparent airfares and allowing full access to advisors and consumers of airline ancillary services.
