ASTA Announces Finalists for 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Winner to be announced at ASTA Global Convention session in Fort Lauderdale on August 27th with guest judge Randi Zuckerberg

Alexandria, VA, August 13, 2019 – Today the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is pleased to announce the three finalists for the 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The winner will be selected and announced at the ASTA Global Convention (AGC) in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, August 27.

The Entrepreneur of the Year Award was established by The Dan and Gloria Bohan Foundation to promote entrepreneurship in the travel and hospitality industry through the recognition of innovators who have either established their own business or who have been responsible for significant entrepreneurial initiatives within an existing organization. Each year, the Foundation, in conjunction with ASTA, honors one person or organization that best exemplifies this spirit of entrepreneurship to receive the award and a $10,000 cash prize.

The finalists for 2019 are:

  • BabyQuip, Inc., presented by Frances Maier (click here for video submission).
  • HotelsByDay.com, presented by Yannis Moati (click here for video submission).
  • Kinship Vacations, presented by Ashley Metesh-McCoy (click here for video submission).

The finalists will appear on stage at AGC to participate in a live “Shark Tank”-style competition on August 27. Each will be given three minutes to make a pitch to a panel of judges, each a travel expert and industry veteran. Tech media personality and entrepreneur Randi Zuckerberg will serve as a guest judge. Each judge will cast a vote for one of the finalists. The live audience, acting as a “super judge,” will also cast a vote in the aggregate to determine the winner.

ASTA expresses its sincere appreciation to everyone who took the time to submit a nomination for the award. “Travel advisors do extraordinarily innovative things every day in an industry that itself is constantly innovating,” said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby. “The submissions we received for this award highlight the lasting and meaningful contributions to the future of the travel industry made by these inspiring professionals.”
