Good news!
Among the changes that the Kentucky Senate made to House Bill (HB) 8 before passing it was to remove travel agencies from the list of 39 different service industries that would be subjected to Kentucky’s six percent sales tax for the first time. Only three service industries were removed from the bill, and we were one of them. The amended bill must still pass the House and go to the Governor, who might veto it. While there is likely to be some back-and-forth over the next few weeks, we don’t expect the legislature to revisit this list of services.
We are certain that were it not for your involvement through our grassroots campaign, this win would not have happened. If you took action over the past few weeks through ASTA’s grassroots portal, thank you. Your support was critical in keeping this tax – which would have cost the average Kentucky travel agency over $25,000 a year in new taxes – out of the bill!
