Alexandria, VA, June 30, 2016 – Today, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is pleased to announce that Arne Sorenson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marriott International, Inc., will attend ASTA’s Global Convention for an exclusive interview with Peter Greenberg, a multiple Emmy-winning investigative reporter and producer and one of America’s most recognized front-line travel journalists.
New technologies and changes in travel distribution arrive in the marketplace at lightning speed, while new business models in lodging and other market segments disrupt the status quo. In a few months, travel agents from across the country will converge on the Peppermill Resort Hotel in Reno Tahoe, Nevada, September 25-28, for the annual ASTA Global Convention, where the association plans to tackle the important question of disruption versus innovation.
“ASTA is thrilled to welcome Arne Sorenson to our Global Convention. Agents need to understand the implications of changes to come in the hotel and lodging industry. Who better to hear it from than Arne Sorenson, the head of the biggest player in the hospitality industry?” said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby. “With the travel industry in its normal state of constant flux, agents are asking questions such as what market trends do I need to plan for? Which changes are truly innovative and will impact my business? We think Peter’s conversation with Arne will give us insight into coming changes and what our members should be doing to prepare for them."
“I’m excited to join ASTA’s Global Convention and have the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the relationship between Marriott and the ASTA travel agent community," said Sorenson. “I look forward to speaking to and hearing from agents at this year’s ASTA Global Convention.”
Earlier this year, ASTA commended Marriott for offering new loyalty member rates to those who not only book through Marriott channels, but also through “select corporate accounts and travel agent partners.”
All members of the press wishing to cover the Global Convention may register here, subject to approval. Registration and all meals associated with the conference are complimentary to the working press.
