Signature Travel Network Makes ASTA Regulatory Compliance Course a Key Component of Signature University Training

Alex Sharpe, President and CEO, Purchases Course for his Entire Network

Alexandria, VA, June 23, 2015 –The American Society of Travel agents (ASTA) applauds Signature Travel Network President and CEO Alex Sharpe for recognizing the value of the 2015 Travel Agency Regulatory Compliance Course by purchasing it for his entire network. The 40-question course and accompanying video and handbook keeps front line travel consultants selling airfare compliant with the major federal statutes and regulations, ensuring that consumers are given correct information and agency owners avoid civil penalties that can range from $10,000 to $180,000.

After viewing firsthand how complex the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules are, and how valuable the exclusive ASTA compliance course is during a networking exercise at ASTA's Premium Business Summit in Chicago June 8, Sharpe said, "I want every travel consultant selling airfare in the Signature network to have access to this information and be 100% compliant. This course is easy to understand, and our national trade association, ASTA, is the only one out there providing it," he said.

"Steep DOT penalties could put a travel agency out of business because a travel consultant failed to disclose information they can learn and be test on in less than two hours by taking this course," said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby. "ASTA members can become compliant and avoid thousands of dollars in fines for roughly the same price as two movie tickets," he said.

The course is available to all ASTA members on ASTA.org/training for $25, and to all non-members for $150 until July 31 (Regular price is $225). The course, which gives travel agents two chances to pass and be certified as compliant, covers everything they need to know on regulations such as baggage fee, airline code share and hazardous materials disclosure rules, advertising and pricing rules and insecticide spraying on aircraft rules.

Any ASTA member agency interested in a bulk deal for 500+ agents to take the course is encouraged to contact Michelle Mueller at mmueller@asta.org.

Any Signature travel consultant who has a question should contact Gina Weyer, CTC, VP of Member Services & Training, gina@signaturetravelnetwork.com, 310.574.0883 ext. 304.
