Campaign Statement

As we all know ASTA is the only organization that supports and advocates for our industry.  They are the only voice that speaks up when unknowledgeable parties outside of our industry initiate what could be a detrimental outcome.  As a result, I will continue to be vigilant as a member of the Board of Directors.

ASTA is also a source of industry knowledge, training, in-person destination experiences and supportive camaraderie.  It will be one of my goals as an ASTA National Board of Director to promote and work towards increased membership.   We need every travel agency and every travel professional to realize the importance of becoming an ASTA member and to spread the word to their industry colleagues.   I believe grassroots activism, along with other membership activities, will continue to grow ASTA and make it stronger in the years ahead.

As an example, at our company we make it a priority to reward ASTA members with preferential pricing on marketing & educational opportunities. We also include ASTA and NACTA presentations at our annual conference and quarterly boot camps.

My life has been spent in the travel industry.  My very first job in 1979 was at an agency whose Assistant Manager, Bobbie Sylvester, was president of Rocky Mountain ASTA and an ASTA National Director.  I remember being inspired by her dedication and passion for our organization.  I promise, if elected I will speak up and speak out about the importance of membership in ASTA and hopefully be as inspiring as she was.  Here’s to you Bobbie!

Campaign Statement

The leadership at ASTA has done a remarkable job, however the ASTA staff can’t do it alone. As a member of the board I will continue to promote the importance of ASTA membership and involvement.  My industry career spans more than 30 years working for travel agencies, an airline, a GDS provider and two consortia.  This will allow me to assist in broadening ASTA’s reach and base.  Already a strong supporter of ASTA, I plan to continue to highlight the work that is being done for our industry on both the national and state levels.

I’m passionate about the work that ASTA does and have been a proud and enthusiastic participant advocating for our industry at every opportunity.  Advocacy, both personally and by ASTA is even more important today with our economy and our world in a state of change and uncertainty.

I’m excited about the opportunities the recent re-structuring of ASTA chapters has created, which allows for even greater membership growth on a grassroots level around the country.   Increased engagement among the consortia will also help to increase membership and communicate the importance for every agent to be a member of ASTA.

ASTA is the only organization where all members of the agency community can come  together to advance the professionalism of our industry and communicate our message regardless of competition, business model, or consortia affiliation. As your representative, I will use my broad industry experience, relationships and perspectives to work with the Board and ASTA staff to ensure your voices and views are heard. I ask for your vote and your support.  Together we can all help ASTA continue to grow and prosper in the future.

Thank you.

Campaign Statement

If you didn't notice, ASTA is on a roll these days! Everywhere you look ASTA is quoted in articles related to our business. Now my good friends who are Independent Contractors (IC's) are able to join ASTA at an affordable price and play valuable leadership roles in the ASTA chapters. When I was previously on the National Board of Directors I pushed for changes to increase our visibility in the general public and to open the doors to IC's and encourage more to join at the Premium level. ASTA is an organization that represents us all but sadly less than 25% choose to join. I want to get back on the Board of Directors so that I can contribute my expertise in increasing our numbers at all membership levels.

I have the passion and can make the commitment to do what is necessary to ensure that ASTA remains at the forefront of the travel industry, that it makes a mark that truly is recognized, and that can carry our industry well into the future while recognizing the strides we made in the past. I have the experience, drive and perseverance to make things happen. I ask for your vote so I can continue the work begun on the Chapter President's Council and ensure that our Chapters as well as our Association are the very best they can be.   I would be honored to serve as one of your National Directors.

Campaign Statement

Please vote for me as your ASTA National Director.  I will truly be YOUR voice with ASTA. I will listen to YOUR concerns and be YOUR mouthpiece.

As a Travel Advocate for 25+ years, my focus continues to be the success of travel agents, the travel industry and the traveling public.  Having worked extensively as BOTH a travel agent and a supplier (i.e. Disney, Ensemble, Regent, Hard Rock, CSA, etc.), I have the knowledge, broad perspective and expertise to be YOUR voice to help guide our organization in providing YOU with more opportunities, national and global visibility, consumer awareness and ultimately increased profitability.

I recently completed my MBA from Pepperdine and am the Immediate Past President of The Southern California Chapter of ASTA and current Treasurer, where I have been serving for 7 years. When I took over as President, our chapter was experiencing financial challenges and a decline in membership. Since that time, my board and I have turned the situation around, we are now financially the third strongest chapter in ASTA, and our membership has increased substantially.  We have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of all ASTA travel agents. We have very successful nationally recognized events where we bring our industry together and celebrate the contributions to it such as Millennial & Mentors Mixers, Luxury Travel Showcase & Symposium and “The Diamond Awards”.

One of the most important aspects of ASTA is advocacy and legislation.  I have been privileged to lobby the past five years with ASTA in Washington, DC and meet with our national representatives on behalf of travel agents on the issues affecting our industry and our businesses. In addition to my commitment to ASTA, I am the current treasurer for CCTO, California Coalition of Travel Organizations and meet with legislators and representatives in California on crucial legislative issues that affect not only our state of California but the entire travel industry.

Our industry and ASTA has been through challenging times. I have witnessed the re-growth of ASTA through strong and effective leadership.  I want to contribute to this momentum. I would like to personally ask for your vote so that I can speak for you and make sure that YOUR organization, ASTA, is fulfilling YOUR needs and guaranteeing YOUR success. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me directly at 310-694.6934 or at my email, PamelaIrwinCTC@gmail.com.

Thank you and I hope I can count on your vote to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Travel Agents as a National Director.

Campaign Statement

In January of 2006 I left the private practice of law to join Travel and Transport as its first in-house legal counsel, and in this capacity I have had the privilege to advise Travel and Transport and its affiliated entities both from a legal and business standpoint.  I am also currently the Secretary of the Travel and Transport Board of Directors.  In addition, I previously served as a Director on the local governing board of the Make-A-Wish® Foundation of Nebraska from 2008 through 2013.  I feel that the experience and insight I have gained in these leadership roles both within and outside of the travel industry provides me with a unique perspective to share with ASTA and its membership.

  • NACTA National Conference Presenter
  • Retired EMS Deputy Chief FDNY
  • FEMA National Incident Management Team
  • United States Fire Administration Masters Level Executive Fire Officer Graduate

Campaign Statement

I believe a strong ASTA is the key to having our industry remain viable and we need to be represented with one voice!

I bring a high level of enthusiasm and fresh ideas for increasing ASTA membership and motivating people to get involved. I have served on the ASTA Board of Directors for the past 2-years and was integral in adding the new independent contractor membership which has brought in almost 500 new ASTA members. My 33-year career in the travel business as part of a traditional brick and mortar agency, and then as a small business owner/independent contractor with a major host agency, Nexion, mirrors the changes in our industry. This experience frames me to best represent this largest growing segment of travel agents on the ASTA Board of Directors.

My past experience as EMS Deputy Chief with FDNY and FEMA’s National Incident Command Team trained me in advanced leadership, strategic planning and coordination skills that are transferrable to serving on the ASTA board of directors.  I know how to balance budgets using innovative thinking to garner the most of available resources.  My organizational skills provide me with the ability to dissect large problems into manageable pieces that can be tackled at a more efficient rate. This has served me well in being a member of the ASTA Finance Committee for the last 2-years, overseeing the increasing fiscal growth of our organization.

I have actively participated in raising awareness and funds for ASTAPAC and I have personally contributed at the President’s Club Level. I have also participated in bringing ASTA’s agenda to our Congressional Representatives at the last two consecutive Legislative Days in Washington, D.C. and will work to increase the numbers of ASTA members who participate.

There has been much improvement over the last two-years in raising ASTA’s profile within the travel industry and garnering recognition of the travel agent in the national press. It is important to grow this trend.

Much still remains to be done. Continued financial diligence, raising ASTA’s media profile and a feet-on-the-ground approach to increasing membership and professionalism within our industry continue to be my priorities.

I am asking for your vote to continue moving forward with a fresh perspective by electing me to a second 2-year term.

Thank you.

Like you, I have survived and flourished through commission cuts and the introduction of the internet to our daily lives. Changing technology has revolutionized our industry and continues to do so. As an agency owner with over 30 years of experience in operating an agency coupled with 6 yrs of co-facilitating TAMS groups of 100+ individual agencies from around the country and current Chairman of the Board of Signature, I understand the challenges we face as an industry and the need for strong representation in crafting supportive Congressional legislation. There are many forces that are outside our control but what we can influence is legislation through effective lobbying. Maintaining a strong ASTA is imperative to our industry. I want to give back to those who came before us by serving as your National Director Representative.
