Kudos to Dan Smith of Caribbean Adventures/Travel By Dan in Seattle, WA for taking time out of his day yesterday to travel to Olympia to testify against state legislation to repeal the preferential business and occupation tax (B&O) rate of 0.275 percent on travel agent and tour operator commission income, and subject them instead to the 1.5 percent tax rate for services. Dan is a former member of the ASTA Board of Directors, occupying the ASTA Small Business Network (formerly NACTA) seat. You can watch his testimony here starting at the 1:50 mark. As we express our gratitude to Dan, we will note that this proposal is very much alive - if you live in Washington state, we strongly encourage you to contact your state legislators on this issue today if you haven't already!
