Wendy Perrin Named ASTA’s 2005 Travel Journalist of the Year
Montréal, Nov. 8, 2005 - Wendy Perrin, consumer news editor of Condé Nast Traveler, received the American Society of Travel Agents' (ASTA) 2005 Travel Journalist of the Year Award this morning at the general session of ASTA's 75th World Travel Congress in Montréal. The award recognizes a journalist whose outstanding efforts have contributed to the promotion of the travel agent community.

"Wendy Perrin is a highly accomplished journalist for Condé Nast Traveler who excels in putting out informative articles covering the everyday events of particular destinations or issues that are important to the travel industry," said ASTA President and CEO Kathryn W. Sudeikis, CTC. "Her in-depth knowledge of the industry, from airlines to travel agents, consistently provides consumers with top-notch advice and information."
Wendy Perrin is the magazine's consumer travel expert, writing a practical advice column called ‘The Perrin Report.' She also compiles for the magazine, the annual ‘World's Most Amazing Travel Specialists' list which features those travel agents who are the best in their fields and judged to be the best combination of specialized knowledge, insider connections, user-friendliness and value for money. Perrin began with Condé Nast Traveler in 1989, and from 1990 to 1993 wrote the magazine's Ombudsman column. In addition to her regular column, she writes feature-length reports on a wide variety of travel topics, including industry trends, hotels, cruises, business travel, vacation bargains, adventure travel and exotic destinations. Her expose about medical care on cruise ships won an investigative journalism award in the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation.
As Condé Nast Traveler's preeminent broadcast spokesperson, Perrin frequently appears on radio and television offering travel advice and discussing trends and issues. Appearances include: The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and various programs on CNN. Perrin was the host of Bloomberg Radio/Condé Nast Traveler Report, a minute-long travel tips feature that aired three times daily from June 1999 - June 2000. In 1997, Perrin hosted Today's Traveler, another daily minute-long feature broadcast to up to 1,100 Westwood One stations.
Perrin regularly speaks at travel industry conferences and Condé Nast Traveler promotional events. She has been an invited speaker at the Harvard Club of New York and the United Nations, and a guest lecturer on the Wind Star, Crystal Symphony and Mariner cruise ships. Perrin is also the online host of the ‘Ask Wendy' section of cntraveler.com and the consumer affairs columnist for Condé Nast Traveler's sister site, concierge.com.
Perrin is the critically acclaimed author of Wendy Perrin's Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know (Fodor's, 1997). The book inspired an Off-Broadway musical comedy revue of the same name.
Recipients of ASTA's Travel Journalist of the Year Award are selected for their broad understanding of the travel industry. They must show through their work consistency and fairness toward the promotion of the travel agent community.
