Without a team actively working on your behalf with state and federal law makers, the travel agent industry would have no official or regular means to establish and maintain local, regional and state government relations. This lack of presence would place our industry at a disadvantage, especially during a time where government legislation that can help and too often hinder organizations.
ASTA monitors and tracks legislative, regulatory, trade and public affairs issues affecting the travel agent industry. This keeps the industry and it’s players in a strong position to capitalize on political connections, resultant legislation and capitalize on other opportunities that reinforce agents’ economic and business development. This can only be accomplished through the actions of savvy government and industry affairs efforts.
In 2009, ASTA fought against the United merchant fee account situation, stood up to anti-trust immunity for entities, engaged Secure Flight program, prevented new undue regulations, provided new research and developed programs that directly impacted travel agents. Standing next to ASTA’s professional force, ASTA travel agent members added their personal voice in addressing congressional staff.
Join ... Paul Ruden, ASTA’s senior vice president of Legal and Industry Affairs, Colin Tooze, ASTA’s vice president of Government Affairs and John Pittman, vice president of Industry Affairs and Market Research, as they cover the range of activities that have been taking place in your association.
